A new fence can be an expensive endeavor, and many homeowners wonder if spending less money on repairs is worth the cost. Here are my recommendations based on industry experience and knowledge:
- The foundation is the key. Like any structure, it is only as good as its foundation. With a fence that foundation is the posts. If your fence has wood posts and you are considering repairs, that should include a thorough inspection of the integrity of the posts, especially where the posts meet the ground. This is the potential point of failure due to ground rot. Replacing posts is labor intensive and will not be the cheapest repair you can have done on your fence but it is money well spent. In my opinion it is better to replace the posts and leave the old pickets than it is to replace the pickets and leave the old posts.
